Discursive Framing of Zones in Europe
My project focuses on practices of integrating zones – i.e. closed-off territories, such as military camps, prisons, secret objects – into the public discursive sphere in Europe between the two World Wars. The zones will be studied as a cultural and social phenomenon that is both pervasive and elusive, and, as such, it has had a tremendous impact on the construction of European history and the present-day identity of its inhabitants.
