Ukraine: Non-Russia, Novorossia or a „Better Russia“?

Tuesday, 12 April 2016, 4:00pm - 5:30pm, IWM library
Ukraine’s negative self-representation as “non-Russia” reflects a collective trauma and a post-colonial way of thinking. Moreover, it alienates both Russia and Europe, argues Vladislav Inozemtsev, a Russian economist and political commentator. Instead, he provocatively suggests that Ukraine should embrace the new identity of a “better Russia”, more liberal and democratic than the original. Anton Liagusha, a Ukrainian historian and journalist, will comment on this idea.

Vladislav Inozemtsev is Professor of Economics at the Higher School of Economics and the Director of the Centre for Post-Industrial Studies in Moscow. Currently he is a  Russia in Global Dialogue Guest at the IWM.

Anton Liagusha is Associate Professor at the Department of World History at the Donetsk National University in Vinnytsia. Currenly he is a Ukraine in European Dialogue Guest at the IWM.
