After Europe, or: How To Handle Disintegration?

Thursday, 15 November 2018, 5:00pm - 6:30pm, Czech Embassy Vienna
“After Europe” is the provocative title of Ivan Krastev’s new book insinuating that the future of the European Union is darkening – the German version powerfully denotes this as  “Europadämmerung.”  Europe’s current problems are indeed numerous: Brexit, the rise of populism and nationalism all over the continent, the unsolved questions raised by migration, and the unstable global political situation (from Putin’s Russia to Trump’s America) pose serious challenges for its future perspectives. But what awaits the continent if the European Union in fact begins to disintegrate? What is to be done to prevent this?

Piotr Buras and Ivan Krastev, two astute observers of European politics, will open the Czech-Austrian Forum with a discussion on these questions.

Piotr Buras is Head of the European Council on Foreign Relations in Warsaw. Currently he is a  Europe’s Futures, Non-Resident Fellow at the IWM.

Ivan Krastev is Chairman of the Centre for Liberal Strategies in Sofia and Permanent Fellow at the IWM.
