„The Debt” (1999) by Krzysztof Krauze

Gerard, the persecutor of the two young businessmen Adam and Stefan, demands the repayment of money they do not owe. In the background one could see the birth of the post-communist capitalism. Its hopes, fears and failures. A thriller movie based on true events, gained extreme popularity. Not only The Debt was commercially successful, but it should be considered as a direct continuation of the real criminal case. In Krzysztof Krauze`s movie – fiction and reality, law and film – are strictly bound together. The movie could be considered as cinematographic icon for the transitional justice period in Poland.
