A dark cosmonaut from a constellation of terror

Rips out a page of an ancient book.

He hangs it on a door on A. Street,

And goes down to Earth

To join the hunt.

Beneath the cosmonaut’s feet blood flows,

Blood, which waters flowers

Thrown asunder on cobbled roads.

Beneath the cosmonaut’s soles break bones,

Fists rain down,

And the primal screams of Earthlings are heard

In the Hellfire

Which reigns over the capital,

Over the souls of victims,

Over all humanity.

But the cosmonaut does not see,

Does not hear,

Does not feel.

There is a vacuum in his helmet.

A black hole where the soul should be.

And in the cosmonaut’s chest,

Instead of a heart,

Beats a flash grenade.

Naturally,

The cosmonaut cannot read

In the languages of the Tower of Babel.

He only knows how to strike

Everything in sight,

Sipping from the river Mnemosyne, he

Beats and sips,

Beats and sips.

Beats, beats, beats.

But these men,

Women,

Children…

Grannies and granddaddies…

Those who just want to be called “people.”

Those swallowed up by the gates

On A. Street.

After the hunt,

They read the writing on the wall,

That ancient page

Of a forgotten Italian writer:

Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch’intrate

(Abandon hope, all ye who enter)

But they,

The people,

PEOPLE with a capital P

Will forever pay the sign no heed.

*** OMON, or AMAP, refers to the Belarusian riot police, a part of the Belarusian state security apparatus.

Цёмны касманаўт з сузорʼя тэрору

Вырваў старонку старажытнай кнігі,

Павесіў над дзвярыма на вуліцы А.,

І спусціўся на Зямлю

На паляванне.

Пад нагамі касманаўта ліецца кроў,

Якая палівае кветкі,

Пакінутыя на брукаванцы.

Пад нагамі касманаўта ламаюцца косці,

Апускаюцца рукі,

І чуваць жывыя крыкі зямлян

У пякельным агні,

Што пануе над сталіцаю,

Над духамі ахвяр,

Над чалавецтвам.

Але касманаўт гэтага не бачыць,

Не чуе,

Не адчувае.

У касманаўта вакуум у галаве,

Чорная дзюра замест душы,

А ў грудзях касманаўта бʼецца

Замест сэрца

Светлашумавая граната.

Натуральна,

Касманаўт не ўмее чытаць

На мовах Вавілонскай вежы:

Ён ўмее толькі біць

Па ўсім,

І піць

З Мнемазіны.

Бʼе ды пʼе,

Бʼе. Бʼе. Бʼе.

Аднак тыя мужчыны,

Жанчыны,

Дзеці,

Бабулі,

Дзядулі…

Тыя, хто называюцца людзьмі,

Тыя каго заглынулі дзверы

На вуліцы А.

Па паляванні,
