The Institute aims to provide scholars, translators and journalists with an inspiring environment that affords them leisure to devote themselves to reading and writing free of other professional obligations. Not only numerous books by internationally renowned Senior Visiting Fellows but also many a first book by Junior Visiting Fellows have thus been written at the IWM.
We would like to share with you this important aspect of the Institute’s intellectual activities through a new section on our website. Books written by our Fellows during their stay at the Institute as well as books published by the IWM will be presented at regular intervals under the new heading “Made in IWM”.
The relevance of two of our unique Fellowship programs needs to be underlined in this context. The Milena Jesenská Fellowship gives journalists the opportunity to use their research towards writing a book. The Paul Celan Fellowship program supports the translation into Eastern European languages of canonical or key contemporary works in the humanities and social sciences. Moreover, the IWM also publishes several books a year in cooperation with the Viennese publishing house Passagen Verlag, which reflect the ongoing research of scholars and public intellectuals linked to the Institute in a variety of ways. The new section on our website aims to highlight this extensive and diverse production of scholarly works at the IWM.
