Project:

Woman Without a Name: The Significance of the Self in Sacrifice

This project engages with the question of the role of the Self in women’s sacrifice. It departs from the philosophical discussion of human sacrifice (Girard and Patočka) and proceeds with feminist criticism of the story of Jephthah’s daughter in comparison to the traditional interpretation of the sacrifice of Isaac. Finally, artistic interpretations of women’s sacrifice (Feuchtwanger) are proposed as an innovative perspective that can complement the philosophical discussion.
