The Weimar Condition of Today’s Europe
Who has undergone a more successful modernization in Europe since the 1930s: liberal democracy or its enemies? Is today’s European Union a stronger barrier to nationalisms and populisms awakend by the global economic crisis than the ‘Wilsonian’ Europe, the Europe of the League of Nations? These questions will guide my attempt at a historical comparison of two Europes.
