Solidarity of the Shaken: Jan Patočka and the Future of Dissidence

This project examines how Patočka’s philosophy can speak to dissidents today who face unjust forms of power in repressive contexts. By putting his ideas into conversation with dissidents like Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Mahatma Gandhi, Václav Havel and others, the project hopes to illuminate the nexus between philosophical theory and political practice, showing contemporary dissidents how to effectively engage Patočka’s ideas of ‘solidarity of the shaken,’ ‘care of the soul,’ and ‘living in truth.’
