Olena Chekan (1946-2013) was a famous Ukrainian actress and journalist. Her first on-screen role was in Solaris, a film by Andrei Tarkovsky. She gained prominence through her own theatrical performances about the creativity and poetry of eminent Slavic poets and writers such as Marina Tsvetaeva, Mikhail Bulgakov, and Taras Shevchenko. This first book was edited by her son Bohdan Chekan and presents a collection of her later interviews with outstanding personalities in European arts and politics such as Václav Havel, André Glucksmann, Yuri Shevchuk, Boris Nemtsov, Natalya Gorbanevskaya, Akhmed Zakayev, Valentyn Sylvestrov, Krzysztof Zanussi, Igor Pomerantsev and Oleg Gordievsky.

Bohdan Rodyuk Chekan was born in 1973 in Kyiv. He is the son of Olena Chekan. He grew up in an artistic family and was surrounded by interesting people, among them prominent intellectuals, artists and writers. He studied at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht, the Salvador Dali Art Institute (Master degree in Industrial Design), Institutum Superius Scientiarum Religiosarum a Sancto Thoma Aquinate, Kyiv, and KU Leuven. Bohdan is a member of artistic community “La veu de l’art” (Commonwealth of Artists) in Barcelona España. He currently studies theology in a master course of San Vicente Ferrer, Valencia.
Robert Jelinek was born 1970 in Pilsen, Czechoslovakia. Since 1990 he has realised projects as an artist in the fields of time-based media, electronic music, olfactory craft, soil culture, and statehood. He was the initiator of the internationally acclaimed art and music labels Sabotage Communications, Subetage Records, Craft Records, and the founder of Spoiler and the State of Sabotage (SoS). In 2014, he established DER KONTERFEI as an independent publishing house and extended art project to serve as a basis for a future SoS Academy. He lives in Vienna.
