Capitalism from Outside? Economic Cultures in Eastern Europe after 1989, edited by János Mátyás Kovács and Viola Zentai has just come out. The book offers empirical insights into the current cultural history of the Eastern European economies in three fields: entrepreneurship, state governance and economic science. It includes selected studies on transforming economic cultures in Eastern Europe. The authors are economists, historians, sociologists and anthropologists of the region who studied transnational cultural encounters in the post-communist economies. The volume examines producers and mediators of economic culture in various contexts, as well as offers comparative studies in three areas: entrepreneurship, governance of economic change, and economic knowledge. >>> More |

Even Ukrainian cultural journals have become the target of "raiders" – shady groups working on behalf of powerful interests who use bogus property claims to close down businesses. The biggest raider of all is the present government itself, says Mykola Riabchuk. |
