Irina Dolgopolova Modeling the Relationship Between Economic Development and Political Democracy
Seminar "Faces of Eastern Europe"
Complex relationship between economic development and political system has been the subject of quantitative research for more than a hundred years. And yet, no methodological instrument employed was capable of providing non-controversial explanation of possible correlation. System Dynamic modeling seems as a promising approach to be applied for this problem, as it allows to establish the relationship between different variables in a complex socio-economic system.
This presentation will discuss possible definitions and indicators of economic development and political democracy that are most applicable for modelling and present a diagram that reflects the interrelation between variables.
Irina Dolgopolova is Associate Professor of Economics, Baikal National University of Economics and Law, Irkutsk, Russia; currently she is an Alexander Herzen Junior Visiting Fellow at IWM.
