Helena Jedrzejczak The Political Theology of Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Fellows' Seminar
Although political theology does not have simple definition, it has become a fashionable way of interpreting an individual's actions. Existing interpretations of this concept range from the ‘classical’ one described by Carl Schmitt to those close to sentimentalism. In her presentation, Helena Jędrzejczak will focus on the meaning and definition of political theology in 20th-century Protestant theology. She will look at what German Protestant political theology exactly is and how it is related to German history, political tradition and the specific way of German ‘confessionalisation’ (Heinz Schilling: ‘Konfessionsbildung’), most notably the characteristic reliance on authority in Lutheran churches.
Helena Jedrzejczak is Ph.D. candidate in Sociology / History of Ideas at the University of Warsaw, and currently Jozef Tischner Junior Visiting Fellow at the IWM.
