Bronisław Geremek (1932–2008)
was an internationally acknowledged
historian, intellectual, politician and an
exemplary European. From 1997 to 2000
he was Foreign Minister of Poland and
received the Charlemagne Prize for
distinguished service on behalf of
European unification. As a member of
the Board of Patrons, Geremek supported
the IWM from its inception. To commemorate
his name and his work, the IWM
awards Bronisław Geremek Fellowships
to young Polish doctoral or post-doctoral
researchers studying Polish national
heritage in the context of the European
tradition. The Fellows are invited to
spend ten months at the IWM.
Bronisław Geremek (1932–2008),
war ein international anerkannter
Historiker, Intellektueller und Politiker
und ein vorbildlicher Europäer. Zwischen
1997 und 2000 war er polnischer Außenminister
und erhielt den Karlspreis für
außerordentliche Verdienste um die
europäische Einigung. Als Mitglied des
IWM Kuratoriums hat Geremek das
Institut von Beginn an unterstützt. In
seinem Andenken schreibt das IWM
zehnmonatige Stipendien für junge
polnische Doktoranden/innen und
Postdocs aus, die sich mit dem polnischen
Kulturerbe im Kontext der europäischen
Tradition befassen.
