Call for Applications

Bronisław Geremek (1932 - 2008), a scholar, intellectual and politician, a passionate Pole and exemplary European, was a source of intellectual inspiration as well as a model for prudent action and moral decency for many. Geremek was a supporter of the IWM almost from its inception and a member of its Board of Patrons until his death. The fellowship program commemorates his name and his work.

1. Objective

The Bronisław Geremek Fellowship program aims to foster the study and reflection of the Polish national heritage in the context of European tradition. The fellowships will enable Polish senior and junior researchers to work on a research project of their choice and to become members of the international, multidisciplinary community of scholars at the IWM. They are open to all academic disciplines in the humanities and social sciences; research proposals related to one of the Institute’s main research fields are strongly encouraged (for details please see www.iwm.at/research.htm).

2. Conditions

Bronisław Geremek Fellows will be invited to spend the academic year 2013/14 (ten months from September 2013 to June 2014) at the IWM to pursue their research projects while working in residence. Senior Visiting Fellows will receive a stipend of EUR 3,800 per month and Junior Visiting Fellows will receive a stipend of EUR 1,800 per month to cover accommodation, living expenses, travel, health insurance and incidentals related to their stays in Vienna. In addition, the IWM provides the fellows with a personal office including access to internet, in-house research and administrative facilities as well as other services free of charge. The fellows will join the scholarly community and participate in the activities of the Institute.
