Bronisław Geremek (1932 - 2008) was an acknowledged historian, an intellectual, a politician and an exemplary European. From 1997 to 2000 he was Foreign Minister of Poland and received the Charlemagne Prize for distinguished service on behalf of European unification. As a member of the Board of Patrons, Geremek supported the IWM from its inception. In commemoration of his name and his work, the IWM in partnership with the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, Warsaw, awards Bronisław Geremek Fellowships since 2009.

in the humanities and social sciences; research proposals related to one of the IWM’s main fields
are strongly encouraged (for details please see Research at the IWM).
Conditions
The Bronisław Geremek Fellows are invited to spend an academic year (September - June)
at the IWM to pursue their research projects while working in residence at the IWM. The fellows receive a stipend in the amount of € 2.000 per month to cover accommodation, travel, health insurance and incidentals during the stay in Vienna. Furthermore, the IWM will provide
