Junior Fellowship for Scholars from Ukraine

This fellowship program, jointly organized by the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna and the Center for Urban History of East Central Europe in Lviv (Ukraine), supports research on the legacies of Europe in the history of Ukraine. From June 2016 onwards, the program will be included in the Ukraine in European Dialogue Fellowship Program.

Topics include modern intellectual, cultural, social and political history. Themes related to urban studies or to one of the IWM’s research fields are likewise welcomed.

The candidate selected will be invited to spend ten months, from September 2015 to June 2016, at the IWM in Vienna. The stipend is meant to cover accommodation, living expenses, travel, health insurance and incidentals during the stay at the Institute. In addition, the IWM provides fellows with a personal office, including access to internet, in-house research and administrative facilities as well as other services free of charge.

Candidates for the Fellowship

  • must be Ukrainian citizens or permanently reside in Ukraine for purposes of study or research
  • must be enrolled in a doctoral program or have recently obtained a Ph.D.
  • must not be older than 35 years

A jury selects the finalists and invites them for an interview to the Center in Lviv. Applicants were notified of the jury decision in April 2015. The jury is not required to publicly justify its decisions.
