Towards a Green Market Economy

Tuesday, 13 October 2009, 6:00pm - 7:30pm, IWM library
Road freight transport in the EU currently only pays for its 50 billion Euro annual infrastructure costs. The remaining 90 billion Euro bill, resulting from so-called external costs (environmental, congestion and accident costs), is not paid by the transport sector but by the whole society. This is just one of the many examples of serious market distortions which are detrimental both for the economy and for the environment. The lecture will discuss these distortions and make suggestions how to eliminate them in a way which benefits the economy and the environment as well.
